Plaza Arcadia, Kuala Lumpur
Urban Research Lab undertook the urban and landscape design of this prestigious 11.3 acre development. URL conceived the landscape design as the constant element binding the diverse range of architectural languages and shopfronts of the streetscape together. Subtle changes in material and accents within the paving compliment the architecture and demark the various external spaces.
The public gathering spaces at the plaza and bazaar destinations are treated with a rich palette of materials to create a sense of place and arrival. Interspersed into the hardscape are water features, planting and seating to cool the microclimate and encourage meetings within these areas. In addition to the larger public spaces, a series of pocket parks have been introduced on the pedestrian journey within Plaza Arcadia. These are small intimate parks designed to be discovered by chance as pedestrians move through the development.
